Accessibility
This site is designed to work with large text, a screen reader, a keyboard alone or an older phone. If anything prevents you from using it, please let us know.
Our goal
We aim for level AA of WCAG 2.2, the international standard for web accessibility. The site has not been externally audited and holds no certification.
Every page can be navigated with a keyboard. Every field in the contact form has a label. Photos have a description; decorative images are skipped by screen readers.
The Display button
At the top of every page, the Display button opens a panel where you can:
- make the text bigger, up to double;
- pick the colours: Auto (like your device, the default), Light or Dark;
- turn on high contrast;
- switch to an easy-to-read font, Atkinson Hyperlegible from the Braille Institute;
- add space between lines, words and letters;
- underline every link;
- stop animations, including the falling leaves and scrolling bands;
- show a reading guide, a band that follows your pointer or finger;
- make the cursor bigger;
- hide images and keep their description on screen.
Your settings stay on your device
Your choices are kept in your browser only. No cookie or account is used, and no data is sent to us. They apply on every page, as soon as it opens. The “Reset everything” button clears them.
If your device is set to reduce motion, the site applies that setting automatically. The same applies to dark mode, until you choose Light or Dark in the panel: your choice then applies to every page.
With a keyboard
Tab moves from one link or button to the next, Shift+Tab goes back. Whatever has focus gets a clear outline. The first link on every page, “Skip to content”, jumps past the menu.
In the Display panel, Enter or Space activates a button or switch, the arrow keys change the colours, and Escape closes the panel. Focus then goes back to the Display button.
Your device's own tools
The tools built into your device often provide more complete support. Zoom (Ctrl and + on Windows, Cmd and + on Mac, two fingers on a phone), your browser's reader mode and screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, Narrator, TalkBack) all work on this site.
External sites
Links in the portfolio and the blog often lead to other websites, including Web archive copies. Their accessibility is outside our control.
Reporting a problem
Email info@petitenationnumerique.ca or use the Contact page. Please include the page, the difficulty you encountered and what you use to browse: phone, screen reader, keyboard. We correct what is within our control and we reply to you.
The contact form uses a Cloudflare anti-bot check (Turnstile). If it blocks you, email us directly.
