It’s a small village, about ten square kilometres, with two landmarks everybody knows. The Fairmont Le Château Montebello, billed as the largest log cabin in the world, and the Manoir-Papineau National Historic Site, Louis-Joseph Papineau’s old home. In between, Rue Notre-Dame packs restaurants, shops and studios into a few blocks. Add a marina on the Ottawa River and a heritage walking circuit.
The economy is tourism, plain and simple. The Château and Parc Oméga, right next door in Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours, bring people in twelve months a year. Food lovers have their own loop: chocolate, cheese, butcher, pastry. And enough artists and craftspeople have settled here that the regional tourism office runs a whole series on them, Les Maîtres de Montebello.
What makes Montebello
Fairmont Le Château Montebello
The big log château on the Ottawa River, with its golf course and spa. For most visitors, it’s how they first hear about Montebello.
Manoir-Papineau National Historic Site
Papineau’s four-towered manor, its gardens and the big red oak out front. The 2026 season opened May 16, with a new outdoor exhibit on Cap Bonsecours.
Centre d’exposition Napoléon-Bourassa
Four visual art and fine craft shows a year on Rue Notre-Dame. Admission is free.
Marina and campground
On the Ottawa River, with room for 58 boats and 30 campers, water and power. Montebello is on the Chemins d’eau, the Outaouais waterway route.

Getting found in Montebello
Montebello gets searched the night before, from Ottawa or Montreal: “Montebello restaurants,” “things to do near the Château,” “B&B Montebello.” Saturday at noon it’s someone in the Manoir parking lot looking for lunch within walking distance. People compare fast, mostly on Google Maps, and in English as much as French. What’s usually missing: up-to-date seasonal hours, an English version, a menu that reads on a phone, and photos that actually show the place. We’d build a fast bilingual site, a tidy Google profile with the right categories, and pages that answer what visitors ask before they leave home.
Montebello has a population of 983 (2026), according to the Quebec government's population order.
Petite Nation Numérique is not affiliated with the municipality or the MRC; this information comes from public sources.

DetailsFrequently asked questions
My shop is on Rue Notre-Dame. Isn’t a Google listing enough?
It does a lot, especially for people already in the village. But visitors planning a weekend look at websites too. A bilingual site of your own keeps your hours, menu and photos under your control.
Most of my customers are from Ottawa. English first or French first?
Both at once. Each version is written for its readers, not translated word for word, and Google learns to show you in both languages.
Where are you based?
In Montpellier, in the MRC de Papineau. We work all over Petite-Nation, Montebello included, and we can meet you in person.
Do you come to Montebello?
Yes. We are based in Montpellier and meet clients in person anywhere in the MRC de Papineau, including Montebello. We can also work entirely online.
My business is small. Is an online presence worth the investment?
Yes, particularly in a rural region. A complete Google profile and a simple site are often enough to stand out from competitors who aren't online. We start with what pays off most for your budget.
