It's about an hour from downtown Ottawa, ten minutes north of Papineauville on Route 321. Settlers arrived in 1841, the village was incorporated in 1911, and the current municipality came out of a 1997 merger. The Petite-Nation River runs right through town, falls and all, and the Musée des pionniers keeps the logging-era past on display.
It's the biggest municipality in the MRC, and it shows. The CLSC, the hardware store, the restaurants, the salons: people come in from Ripon, Saint-Sixte and Montpellier for all of it. It's also known as the cultural centre of the MRC. In summer the Western festival and the TWIST fibre festival swell the crowds, then Route 321 goes back to being a busy village main street.

TWIST Fibre Festival
More than 100 wool and fibre exhibitors at Complexe Whissell every August, often billed as the biggest fibre festival in Canada.

About 1,500 objects and 5,000-plus historical photos, with a wooded trail, a lookout over the river and a footbridge to the village heritage walk.
The Petite-Nation River
It cuts through the municipality with several falls. There are also nine named lakes, Lac Whissell and Lac Simonet among them.
Louis-Joseph-Papineau trail
The cycling trail runs through the village, which makes it an easy coffee or ice cream stop mid-ride.

Getting found in Saint-André-Avellin
Saint-André has real competition. Several restaurants on the same road, several garages, several salons. When someone searches restaurant Saint-André-Avellin on a Friday night, Google shows three, not ten. During the Western festival, visitors from Ottawa and Gatineau are looking for food and a bed, in English, on their phones. In winter it's the whole centre of Petite-Nation checking hours before they drive in. Plenty of local businesses have a Facebook page but an unclaimed Google profile, or hours from last year. We'd clean that up first, then build a fast bilingual site that answers the questions you get on the phone every day. We're in Montpellier, in the same MRC. We can come by.
Saint-André-Avellin has a population of 3,904 (2026), according to the Quebec government's population order.
Petite Nation Numérique is not affiliated with the municipality or the MRC; this information comes from public sources.

DetailsFrequently asked questions
There are lots of businesses like mine in town. How do I stand out on Google?
A claimed, complete profile, recent photos, replies to reviews, and a web page that plainly says what you do and where. Here, those small things are often the gap between second place and sixth.
Do you build English sites too?
Every site we build is bilingual. We write the English for Ottawa visitors and cottagers, not as a word-for-word translation.
Do you come to Saint-André-Avellin?
Yes. We are based in Montpellier and meet clients in person anywhere in the MRC de Papineau, including Saint-André-Avellin. We can also work entirely online.
My business is small. Is an online presence worth the investment?
Yes, particularly in a rural region. A complete Google profile and a simple site are often enough to stand out from competitors who aren't online. We start with what pays off most for your budget.
