Up in the far northwest corner of the MRC, Bowman is named after businessman Baxter Bowman and has been its own township since 1913. The Lièvre forms its eastern edge, with the Escalier reservoir to the southeast and the south end of Poisson Blanc lake to the northwest. 164 km², lots of trees, lots of water. On summer Saturday mornings, half the village is at the public market.
Business follows the seasons. Summer is campgrounds along the 307, the docks and the boat launch on Poisson Blanc. Fall is hunting, with the outfitters. Winter is torchlight hikes, ice fishing, and skating on the river. A lot of visitors come up from Ottawa and Gatineau, and they planned the weekend on their phone.
What makes Bowman
Forêt Bowman regional park
680 hectares of hills, cliffs, lakes and old forest, with 9 km of trails and over 40 climbing routes on the Panorama wall. Open year-round, through the welcome pavilion on chemin du Lac du Brochet.
The Saturday market
Every Saturday from June to early September at Parc du Centenaire on the 307. Local growers, makers and families all show up.
Poisson Blanc lake
A boat launch, a public dock, and access to Parc régional du Poisson Blanc and the Air-Eau-Bois outdoor centre. It’s the playground of the south end.
The Lièvre River
It runs along Bowman’s entire eastern edge. The Escalier reservoir to the southeast is really just the river widening out.
Seasonal outings
A torchlight hike in winter and a fall walk when the colours peak in October. Two dates that get the whole village outside.

Getting found in Bowman
In Bowman, the search happens the night before, back in Ottawa or Gatineau: “climbing trails Outaouais”, “outfitter cabin Lièvre River”, “camping Poisson Blanc”. Then a second time on the 307, when you’re out of ice or a tire goes flat. The bigger businesses here already have websites. What lags is everything else: Google profiles with no hours, Facebook pages that don’t say whether you’re open in October, nothing in English for customers who mostly drive in from Ontario. We’d fix that first, with a simple bilingual site that loads fast on a phone with one bar of signal.
Bowman has a population of 746 (2026), according to the Quebec government's population order.
Petite Nation Numérique is not affiliated with the municipality or the MRC; this information comes from public sources.

DetailsFrequently asked questions
Most of my customers come from Ottawa. Do I really need English?
If a good share of your bookings come from Ontario, yes. An English version written for them, not translated word for word, answers their questions before they call. French stays the main language; Quebec law requires it anyway.
I’m only open in summer. What’s a website doing for me in winter?
Winter is when people plan their summer. Opening dates, rates and fresh photos online in February mean bookings come in before the season even starts.
Do you come to Bowman?
Yes. We are based in Montpellier and meet clients in person anywhere in the MRC de Papineau, including Bowman. We can also work entirely online.
My business is small. Is an online presence worth the investment?
Yes, particularly in a rural region. A complete Google profile and a simple site are often enough to stand out from competitors who aren't online. We start with what pays off most for your budget.
