About 400 full-time residents spread over 140 km² of lakes, hills and bush, with the Maskinongé River running right through from north to southeast. There’s Boileau village, the hamlet of Brookdale, Maskinongé Bay, Loup and Champagneur lakes. Officially, the place was called Ponsonby until 1993. Everyone already said Boileau, after an early postmaster, so the municipality made it official.
Most of the economy is cottages and trades. Summer brings swimmers and canoeists, winter brings snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers, and fall is hunting and fishing season. The people who live here year-round build, renovate, tap maples or rent out a cottage, and a lot of their customers live in Ottawa, Gatineau or Montreal.
What makes Boileau
The Maskinongé River
It cuts across Boileau from north to southeast. Plenty of local cottages sit right on its banks, and it’s usually the first thing you see in a rental listing.
From Ponsonby to Boileau
Ponsonby township was incorporated in 1882. The name Boileau comes from postmaster Jules Perpetus Poissant, known as Pierre Boileau, and became official in 1993.
Brookdale and the English names
Early settlers came from Ireland and England, and you can still see it on the map, starting with Brookdale.
Outdoors all year
Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in winter, swimming, canoeing and hiking in summer. The municipal park is worth a stop for the view.
Village life
The municipality posts its events on its citizen portal, like the western-style méchoui supper on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Town hall is at 702 chemin de Boileau.

Getting found in Boileau
Chemin de Boileau isn’t Highway 148. The people who find you typed something like “cottage rental river Outaouais”, “maple syrup near Montebello” or “renovation contractor Petite-Nation”, often from Ottawa or Montreal, and often in English. Close to 14% of residents are English-speaking, and so are a lot of cottage owners. What’s usually missing here is basic: a Google profile with the right hours and real photos, and one page that tells people how to buy or book without going through a platform that takes a cut. That’s where we’d start, in both languages. We’re based in Montpellier and work all over the MRC, Boileau included.
Boileau has a population of 414 (2026), according to the Quebec government's population order.
Petite Nation Numérique is not affiliated with the municipality or the MRC; this information comes from public sources.

DetailsFrequently asked questions
My cottage already rents on Airbnb. Why would I need my own site?
Keep Airbnb for getting discovered. Your own site is for the guests who come back next year: they book direct, you skip the commission, and you keep their contact info. One clear page with photos, house rules and a calendar is enough to start.
I only make a bit of maple syrup. Is it worth being on Google?
Yes, especially in spring, when people search “maple syrup near me”. A complete Google profile with your address, a phone number and sugaring-season hours costs nothing and already makes a difference. A product page can come later.
Will you come out to Boileau?
Yes. We’re based in Montpellier and work across the MRC de Papineau. We can meet at your place, or handle almost everything by phone and email if that’s easier for you.
Do you come to Boileau?
Yes. We are based in Montpellier and meet clients in person anywhere in the MRC de Papineau, including Boileau. We can also work entirely online.
My business is small. Is an online presence worth the investment?
Yes, particularly in a rural region. A complete Google profile and a simple site are often enough to stand out from competitors who aren't online. We start with what pays off most for your budget.
