At the end of the month, we will be in Vancouver for the Futureproof Festival of AI, October 28 to 30, at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vanier Park. The festival is organized by Kris Krüg (known as KK), a longtime friend, and by BC + AI, the non-profit association he founded and leads.
The festival offers three days on AI: an opening night, followed by two days of talks, demonstrations, film and live performance, with candid discussion rather than hype. The program is built around community, creativity, ethics, resilience and education. Speakers include Naomi Klein, Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle, and Amber Case.
Why are we attending?
Attendance is part of our networking and industry research, which is ongoing work for us rather than an occasional outing.
There is also a more direct connection. Holistic Hybrid Inc. was a founding sponsor of BC + AI, and we support what Kris is building. When the association holds its main event, our presence follows naturally.
Which earlier event does this trip make up for?
A talk we were unable to attend in July. On July 29, Dave Olson, a longtime friend visiting from Okayama, Japan, was the keynote speaker at Vancouver AI Meetup #31, held at the same Space Centre. He spoke about memory, community, tools and archives. This trip partly makes up for having missed it.
For those who also missed it, the full evening is available on YouTube.
Festival tickets are available on Luma. Readers who plan to attend are welcome to contact us.
