It was only a matter of time; coinciding with their 4.6 release, Drupal.org has started what they call the Drupal Theme Garden, a less-than-subtle homage to Dave Shea's CSS Zen Garden.

Originality aside, I think it's great move. Kudos to Ber Kessel for setting it up.

Drupal has long been soley the domain of PHP developers and early adopters. Not to knock the amazing dev community in any way, they make it all happen, but it's pretty obvious that the platform needs some eye candy to drive adoption on a massive scale.

It's a boon for resellers of Drupal themes such as Raincity Studios, and good for the CMS as a whole. Next time they ask, “What can a Drupal site look like?” Show them Theme Garden and say, “Like anything you want.”

There isn't much new stuff to see so far. The usual suspects like Marvin and box_cleanslate are in attendance. ChiqueChick is pretty cool.

Yes, expect a submission or two from Raincity in the crop of themes that start appearing at the Garden in the days to come. Where we'll get the time? who knows?
