I've always thought that education and Drupal would go great together. We always intended Bryght to be a base platform from which many different solutions could spring. Will Pate, of GoodBasic, a Bryght reseller and partner, intends to focus heavily on extending and expanding Drupal so it works better for instructors and students. In fact, he used Drupal at the University of PEI for their weblogs@UPEI initiative.
Robert Douglass recently posted about the concept of a quiz module on Drupal.org. This drew some great responses from Charlie Lowe (known on Drupal.org as cel4145), who is also involved with the following education-related sites:
- OSDDP, the Open Source Documentation and Development Project, at Purdue university
- Kairosnews, a "Weblog for Discussing Rhetoric, Technology and Pedagogy"
- DrupalEd, a Drupal bundle pre-selected to be of use for instructors
Then Robert Paterson, who Will had been working with in PEI, contributed some great thoughts to the quiz module as well as the notion of Drupal-as-learning-tool in general.
Harold Jarche, another Maritimer, talks about social learning vs. e-learning, tying together James Farmer's thoughts on un-managed vs. managed learning environments (where Will and I also put in our 2 cents).
Whew! Lots of talk. Now, let's turn these thoughts into action. Over to you, Will.
