Today officially marks the code freeze for drupal 4.6 development. As part of Bryght's community involvement, I've been hammering away at a couple features. Here's a quick run down of some of the new things to look forward to in Drupal 4.6 (which, of course, will be incorporated in Bryght's offering as well):
- Publishing multiple content (node) types via blogapi - This feature enables users of tools like ecto, MarsEdit and w.bloggar to post stories, static pages, forum posts, etc.
- RSS updates - The next version of drupal will offer some new features such as categories, and more notably enclosures - your Bryght site will be able to serve your podcasts out of the box. For developers, the changes also includes some increased flexibility in generating custom RSS feeds - so it's now possible to include other custom elements.
- Image handling - Drupal 4.6 also introduces an image handling framework - which will allow other modules to conveniently and consistently manipulate uploaded images. So, for instance, user pictures will now be automatically resized to fit your site's restrictions, rather than the user being faced with confusing errors.
This list, of course, only encompasses the contributions from Bryght for this round - but we are part of a much larger community. As usual, the next drupal version will be a solid, worthwhile upgrade - all part of the Bryght package.
