Are Home Pages on Their Way Out?

Most developers create sites that follows the traditional IA; home page and then sub pages comes from a global navigation.

Taking in consideration that most people use a SE as their web browser home page, less then ever people call a website by directly typing the URL in address bar.

This mean that a large portion of your visitors in the future, will enter your website via any pages popping up in searches.

Once the SEs chain reaction has started, and your site has been indexed and crawled, it will slowly make it's way in peoples' searches allowing readers to access your site via whatever topic they where searching for.

How Can You Control The Flow of Information on a Website?

Understanding how search engine work, will become a crucial part of web design, knowing that people can enter a site using any link available, developers will have to adjust to that effect.

It is more then likely that traditional website structure will be replaced by what could be clusters of macro-sites linked together under one branded style.

Then it will not so much be about making the first page memorable, but creating an efficient design that can complement all of the content needs and captivate the readers attention.
